(The Beginning…) By Starry

It was a cold, dark, damp day in Albia. The skies were thick with a silvery gray mist that dressed everything in thick shrouds, and so Albia, for the moment, was a vast expanse of ghostly-looking trees, bushes, and buildings.

Even in the Shee City things were quiet and still. Most of the Shee were locked up in their laboratories, working on their latest projects, while their tame Norns looked on in simple curiosity. Everything was quiet, save for the occasional rumble of thunder in the distance, far away over the distant West Ocean.

Suddenly the eerie quiet was broken by a savage growl and a scream. Shee scientists, irritated by the interruption in their work, popped their heads out of their laboratories to see what the disturbance was, only to see a glimpse of something large and green streaking down the hallway, in pursuit of something rather small and brown. They didn't recognize either as being particularly important at the moment, and baffled they turned to go back to their work, when suddenly they heard another cry - this time, one they recognized.

"Gilda! Come back! Leave the twins alone! Please, Gilda! Leave them alone! Ailee, Aden, come back!"

The Shee scientists all sighed and shook their heads as Bruin, one of their rather scatter-brained colleagues who was known for unintentionally causing trouble with his experiments, ran by in pursuit of the two, or rather three, blurs of color, gasping out his story as he did so.

"It's Gilda, the Mother Grendel I've been working on! She's gotten out! And my two young Norn twins, Ailee and Aden, were on the floor playing, and when they saw Gilda, they just took off, and I'm dreadfully afraid of what will happen to them if Gilda gets a hold of them…"

At hearing this the Shee scientists looked at each other and ran in pursuit of Bruin. It wasn't that they cared about the Norn twins - they were just silly baby Norns anyway, and not that important - but they knew that Gilda was not just an average Grendel. She had been genetically created to be able to reproduce on her own, and if she escaped into the world, there could be no end to the number of offspring she could produce, and if there were no Shee to keep them under control, all chaos would erupt…

The scientists chased frantically after Bruin, Gilda, and the two infant Norns, and they were in such a hurry that they didn't realize that Bruin had stopped. They all plowed into him, and when they finally regained their composure and stood up, they saw Bruin standing there, his head in his hands, sobbing in a very undignified and un-Sheeish manner. And in front of him stood the open door to the outside, which happened to be very near a deep and dense forest.

"They're gone," Bruin sobbed, "They're gone."

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES...... by Topegy45

Now Ailee and Aden are being chased through the forest with Gilda close be hind. Ailee, being the clumsy one, trips and falls over a branch but Aden keeps running. She cries "EM FOO HEEELLLLLLPPP." She pauses not knowing what she just said. Aden turns with a quick jolt and runs back to Ailee but its too late the mother Grendel has caught up to them. She laughs hysterically, "HAHAHAHAHurg," but stops suddenly for she sees something white and mysterious off in the distance. Afraid (which is not very common for a Grendel) and not knowing what to do she runs off into the dark. The white figure comes closer and closer. Aden and Ailee become very frightened as the figure becomes more clearer. But this is not what's going through Ailee's mind. She is still wondering what had came out of her mouth back there. She didn't know what she said or what it meant. It just blurted out in the fear at the moment. Now the figure is much more clearer than before. And its not a Grendel but an Ettin. An Ettin with cute red eyes and a nice smooth white coat of fur. Of course at the time the two young Norns did not know what it was but to them it seemed like a peaceful creature, neutering and kind. It spoke to them "My name is Samuel. What is yours?" The two young ones stared at the creature then at each other and then back to the Ettin. "Don't you understand me?" said Samuel. "Bibble?" asked Aden. Samuel stood there and thought "Bibble, BibbleBibbleBibble? Oh I know!" exclaimed Samuel. "You're Norns, too young to speak English. Well I guess you could come with me and I'll teach you." Aden and Ailee just sit there while the Ettin walks off. "Well are you coming? Come On." They both get up and walk off into the distance with the Ettin........

Section 3 - BettyAS

Gilda watched quietly as the small brown creatures were led away. She wanted to follow them, but she wasn’t sure about the white one. It didn’t look like a Shee but it did make sounds like one.

Gilda was very lonely and wanted to be with others. The Shee had kept her alone for most of her life. A few times she had seen others that looked like the reflection she saw when she looked at the shiny wall. They didn’t notice her however. They never even looked at her; they just ran off to do whatever the Shee told them to do. When the Shee named Bruin had failed to lock her door properly she went out looking for someone that would notice her. She had been so excited when she had seen the small creatures.

“Me hungwy” Gilda croaked in her gravely voice. While she might not speak as well as the Shee or the white creature she was not stupid. She knew that no one would bring her food unless she went back to the laboratory, and she was not about to do that. Her hunger was becoming more acute. Ever since her belly had started to grow she had needed more and more food.

“Me hungwy!” she exclaimed more insistently as she wandered further into the woods. The small brown creatures were forgotten as she tried to decide what she was going to eat.

Chapter 4 - Pattycake4554

Gilda looked around, chewing on a leave from a nearby tree branch. She noticed a round object hanging and reached for it. Tentatively, she bit down. "Urg...mmmmmmm" she grunted as the sweet apple juice spilled down her throat. She quickly ate another and another. Feeling revitalized with her stomach full, she headed off in the direction of the Ettin's smell, which seemed to have a calming effect on her.

The two little Norns looked around in awe. They had no idea where they were. The small strange looking creature who had led them from the forest, away from the frightening green thing, had pushed them into a large silver and black thing and into this room, closing the door. They saw and ran for the cheese hunks on the floor, delighting on the "food" Bruin had given them in the Lab. Suddenly there was a loud noise, lights began to flash. They heard a voice (sounding like Bruin) "Eat", "Get" "Drop" "Crowded". They were compelled to repeat the sounds, and amazed that they knew what the words meant! They knew they were "norns", they knew they were "afraid" of the "grendel" that an "ettin" had led them here. Above all, they knew it was important that they "Eat Food".

Meanwhile, back at the Lab, Bruin fretted that his Shee superiors would find out what he had done. He had implanted a homing device into all three of the escaped creatures. He activated it now and realized that the Ettins had taken the Norns aboard the Shee spaceship, which was being loaded for their imminent journey away from the World of Albia. The selected Norn eggs had been implanted, the fish eggs, plants, animals had all been loaded. Almost all was ready.

The Grendel homing device showed she was just now entering the ship as well! No Grendels aboard was the plan. This could mean his life as punishment. His superiors must never find out the Grendel had gotten onto the ship. Bruin knew what he had to do...he furtively glanced around, and seeing no one near the control room, he entered. He was thankful his best friend, Civet, had shown him the panel. He reached for the buttons and switches. The roar was deafening. The Shee came running to the control room but Bruin had padlocked the door...The Spaceship began to lift off its launching pad.

Chapter 5 - vegie_2000

His head sweating like mad, Bruin glanced down at the homing device. He felt only half relieved at what he saw. The homing device showed that Gilda had got off the ship, which brought a lot of relief! But to his horror, he realised that Aden had also got off the ship, and was indicated standing there, with Gilda....

Aden was extremely scared. "Aden afraid" she stammered, and was about to run off, when Gilda stopped her. She had got hold of Aden's shoulder. "Aden run" she squeaked. "Stop norn" said Gilda. Aden was still extremely scared and shouted the same thing again - "EM FOO HEEELLLLLPPP!" She shouted louder this time. Gilda's face broke into a smile - then she said something in a strange new form of language. "Norn no afraid...Gilda no hurt norn" Aden stop struggling, and looked up at Gilda. This was far too advanced for her knowledge, but she picked up key words, like "no" and "afraid" and "norn". Aden thought to herself (in norn language) - "this grendel is not going to hurt me...." That's when another ettin decided to show up. Fear ran all the way through Gilda. She let go of Aden and ran into the darkness.

"Aden come ettin" said Aden walking over to the ettin's side.

"Oh .... I hate the way those young norns talk" sighed the ettin, "come on, I'm going to teach you some PROPER English!" The two creatures sat down as the ettin explained to the little norn all kinds of complicated words - by the end Aden knew most of the words of the English language.

That was when Bruin came running up,"Oh thank the Shee you've got her, Percy!" he said to the ettin,"I was so worried! You haven't seen a young grendel around, have you?"

"No I haven't, Bruin - but the child has!" replied Percy pointing to Aden.

"Don't be stupid - she doesn't know a single word of...." began Briun.

"YES I DO!!!!!!" interrupted Aden.

"Oh my life..." Said Bruin, but then clutched his throat at the thought of the fact that he had nearly lost his."Aden, sweetie - you haven't seen a grendel around here, have you?"

"Yes I have, actually - but don't hurt her! She doesn't mean any harm!!!!!"

Bruin knew that Gilda would not have hung around. He decided that he could se where she was on his homing device later. He told Percy everything that had happened with the grendel.

"Oh, I see....So that would explain why my homing device shows that there are five Grendels on board the ship..." replied Percy.

"W-What do you mean?!" stammered Bruin,"Gilda's down here..."  That's when he broke off, and bit his lip. He thought for a moment. Gilda must have laid some eggs on the ship! But the worst thing was, the deep secret of the experiment. Any babies that Gilda or any of Gilda's family to come would have, would be ten times meaner than their mother. Bruin thought in horror, of the spaceship, somewhere in space.....

Chapter 6 - The_Creature_Master

“Grah, urrg,” a Grendel said as it popped out of its egg. “Beh graaah, oogh.”

“Grndl grag,” Another Grendel told the baby Grendel. It led the newborn over to a weird object and took his hand and pressed it against the object. His head was immediately filled with the many words of the English language.

“What is this? What are these words that are filling my head? And what is that smell…?” he asked in English, sniffing the air.

“Welcome. You shall be named Greg. I am Rudos. You have just touched a Knowledge Stone. The words you now know are a language called “English”. It shall be the most used language we use here. The thing you smell is a Norn. Sworn enemy of us Grendels,” Rudos replied.

“I see. They’re our enemies? How so?”

“Well… Erm… We don’t know why, actually. When we were born we just had an instinct to kill them,” Rudos told him.

“I see,” Greg said. “Hmm… Then why is it that I don’t feel like killing them?” He thought to himself. “I’m going to go explore now. See you later!”

And with that, He ran through the door and arrived at the corridor of the Shee Ark. A young Shee saw him.

“Hello there!” she said cheerfully. “Aren’t you a Grendel?”

“Yes, I am. What of it? And you’re a Shee, right?”

“No, nothing really. I’m Kimberly. I’m training to be a scientist! And yes, I am a Shee. Pleased to meet you…?”

“Greg,” he answered.
“Greg. Pleased to meet you, Greg,” she said, smiling. “I know you’re supposed to be bad and mean and all, but I don’t see what’s so bad and mean about you.”

“Really? One of my fellow Grendels told me that Norn smell angers us and that they were our sworn enemies. But when I sniffed the air and detected Norn scent, I wasn’t at all angered.”

“Hmm. That’s weird. We received a report from Albia telling us that there were five Grendels and three Grendel eggs onboard this ark. Each baby Grendel that is born after the mother Grendel grows more meaner and meaner, but you don’t seem mean. And you look third generation. I have calculated that there is a rare chance that some Grendels may be born good and immortal, but the other Shee don’t believe me. Hey… You may the one to prove my theory!” she exclaimed excitedly. “Come on! Follow me!”

With that, she took his hand and dragged him over to the Engineering Area.

“Hah! You guys didn’t believe me when I said that a good and immortal Grendel might be born! Well, I’ll have to prove that wrong. Because right here is the creature that proves that my theory is true! Do a test and see whether it’s true, Ken!” she said.

“Calm, down. Kimberly. We’ll see. John, bring us a newly born baby Norn, please,” Ken, Kimberly’s elder brother said.

“Yes, captain,” John said while bowing. A few minutes later he came back with a baby Bengal Norn. “Here he is, captain.”

“Thank you, John. You may return to your work.”

“Yes, captain.”

“Okay, Kimberly. We shall now see whether what you say is true or not. Hold still, Grendel.”

“The name’s ‘Greg’,” Greg replied, obviously annoyed at Ken.

“Greg. Hold still, Greg,” Ken said, putting the baby Bengal down on Greg’s head. They all watched as the baby continued to slide down it’s back and tickle Greg’s nose with his hair.
“Hmm. This is odd. Very odd indeed,” Ken said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. “Greg should have been angered by the smell now. This may be the Grendel that we are looking for. John, bring the baby Bengal back."

“Yes, captain," John said and brought the baby back to the Norn Terrarium.

“What? Looking for what?” Greg asked curiously.

“We’re looking for a good, strong and immortal creature to turn into a cyborg. We have proven that you are good, but not strong and immor-” Ken was cut short as he was lifted off his feet by Greg.

“This strong enough?” Greg asked.

“Err…Yes. I would be obliged if you could out me down now.”

“Sure,” Greg said, putting Ken down.

“Now we need to test whether you’re immortal. Onto the the Medical Bay!” Ken said while pointing his finger toward the Medical Bay.

When they reached the Medical Bay, Greg was looking in awe at all the various machines. But the thing that got his main attention was the Medical Pod.

“Must I enter here? Are you going to do what I’m thinking what you’re going to go?” Greg asked nervously.

“Yes, you must. Since I can’t read your mind and can’t know what you’re thinking, I can only say one word: Maybe. We’re going to inject Cyanide into you.”

“Oh, sure. That was helpful. Now I wish I hadn’t asked,” Greg said as he climbed into the Medical Pod and became oblivious to all the sounds outside. Even his eyesight dimmed.

“Computer, activate scanners. Password, ‘There is always hope’”, Ken said to the computer.

“Password acknowledged. Activating scanners. Creature in Medical Pod: Grendel,” the computer said in a mechanical voice.

“Open Status Panels,” Ken commanded.

“Opening Status Panels. Status Panels opened. Awaiting further instructions.”

“Computer, inject Chemical 67, Cyanide, into patient.”

“Warning. Chemical 67, Cyanide, can kill creatures. Are you sure you want to continue?” the computer warned.

“Yes. Continue.”

“Chemical 67, Cyanide, injected. Displaying information on Status Panels.”

Greg suddenly felt a tiny pinprick of pain as Cyanide was being injected into him. He silently prayed that he indeed was immortal. He sagged with relief as he felt nothing happening to him. The Cyanide wasn’t affecting him!

“Whoa! Greg is immortal! The Status Panels show that he’s infected with Cyanide, but he isn’t dying! His heartbeat is still going strong!” Ken exclaimed, both surprised and happy.

“ See? See? I told you!” Kimberly said, beaming proudly.

“Computer, inject Chemical 96, Sodium Thiosulphate, into patient.”

“Chemical 96, Sodium Thiosulphate, injected. Displaying information on Status Panels.”

The others watched as Greg’s Cyanide levels slowly fell. When the Cyanide was completely gone, they let him out.
“Greg, are you all right?” Kimberly asked him anxiously as soon as he was out.

“Err, yes. I’m okay. A bit groggy, though,” Greg replied, blinking.

“We shall begin recreating you immediately, Greg. Congratulations, Kimberly. You are hereby promoted to Chief Scientist!” Ken said, patting her on the back.

“Wow… Really!?” she asked excitedly. “It’s always been my dream to become Chief Scientist!”

“Congratulations, Kimberly!” Greg said.

“Thanks,” she said, smiling to everyone. “Now, let us begin our experiment on making you a cyborg!”

A few days pass, with the members of Greg’s family not at all worried about what might be happening to him. And, at approximately 24:48, the experiment was completed…

Ken, Kimberly, and the others watched on eagerly as Greg stepped out of the cylindrical tube. Cold mist began to envelope the room.

“I can’t see. And I’m cold,” Kimberly whined.

“Me too. Let’s just wait for the mist to settle,” Ken told her.

“This… This feels… Extraordinary. I can rotate my tail in all directions. And my eyes… I have two more!” Greg said, obviously bewildered. “They can turn in all directions! I can see behind without having to turn my head!”

“Whoa… Really? That means our experiment was a success! Yes!” Kimberly said, punching her fist in the air.

“And… And I’ve got more. I… I have x-ray vision! I just saw through my own hand!” Greg said.

“We know. We programmed that into you,” Kimberly said, grinning.

Suddenly, the mist began to disappear.

“What? The mist shouldn’t have settled that quickly!” Ken said.

“I know. I know you all felt cold so I… I inhaled all of it.” Greg explained.

“Oh, cool! Our experiment worked! All right!” Kimberly said. “You shall now be the one to protect the other creatures onboard the ship from danger against the other Grendels and other things! Or if they are drowning! This shall go down in Shee history for sure!”

Greg beamed. “I didn’t realize that this would happen to me,” he said happily.

“Come on, Greg! Help us build the Genetic Splicer!” Kimberly told him.

“Sure!” Greg replied happily.

CHAPTER SEVEN - by Starry

Meanwhile, back on Albia…

In the Shee Laboratories, twenty Shee Scientists were arguing loudly. One of them, a young, arrogant male by the name of Dorek, was standing on a raised platform, shouting his opinions to the surrounding crowd.

"What are we to do now?! That moron Bruin has ruined all our plans! How are we going to get off this blasted flat planet now?!" he yelled, and the surrounding scientists, surprised by his powerful words, quieted.

"He's right!" a scientist in the crowd yelled.

"Yeah!" others echoed, and a chant rose up, "FIND BRUIN! FIND BRUIN! FIND BRUIN!"

"SILENCE!" a voice suddenly bellowed, and a new figure entered the room. He was grayed with age, and a silver tint in his hair added a look of majesty and intelligence. He walked slowly, yet gracefully, and the crowd of scientists parted before him, looking sheepish. This was Bryant, the oldest of the Shee Scientists and the most respected. He had been the first to envision the Shee's departure, and in his youth he had created the first plans for the Shee Mothership. This had been many years ago, but he still oversaw the plans even in his ancient years, and of all the people who should be upset about the loss of the ship, he certainly had the most right to be so. But he was calm and collected as he approached the stage where Dorek stood, and Dorek moved quickly to the side.

"We know not yet why Bruin did what he did, my fellow men of science. Of anyone, you ought to know not to jump to conclusions before the whole story is told," Bryant said, and each scientist in the room hung their heads in shame at the gentle reprimand.

"Forgive us, O Ancient One. We panicked. It shall not happen again," one of them said, and there was a murmur of agreement. Some men glared momentarily at Dorek, whose head was still bowed. Bryant turned now to him.

"Young one, I am not angry with you, nor shall any other man present be. You spoke in passion and expressed your opinions. This is not reason for punishment - fear not. Granted, your opinions, though strong, were put to rest quickly. But it is good that you had the strength and courage to put them forth. And had it been necessary, you would have led others into the pursuit of accomplishing your goals. These are all the marks of a true leader. Come with me now. I believe that you have the attributes I seek," he said, and Bryant looked up briefly, flushed with pride, then looked back down again. Bryant then addressed the other scientists, "You others, return to your homes now. I will speak with you soon. You are dismissed."

The crowd sifted slowly away, leaving Bryant with Dorek beside him. Bryant lifted the younger scientist's head gently, looking into his deep, dark blue eyes.

"Come with me, Dorek. You will help me," he said, and Dorek nodded dumbly.

"Yes, O Powerful Ancient One. I am yours to command," he mumbled, and to his amazement, Bryant smiled.

"Fear not, Young One. Come," he said, and led Dorek away.

Chapter 8 by Topegy45

Dorek and Bryant enter a secret room. Bryant starts to put a disk inside his computer and the screen pops up and says "Enter computer
access code," in a machine kinda way. Bryant types in "SPECIES." "Access approved" says the computer. And now the screen shows three DNA patterns and 3 pictures of 3 new breeds of norns. Bryant turns to Dorek and says "Dorek, I brought you down here to show you my newest creations."
Dorek is amazed by the way the new norns look. He's standing there with his mouth wide open almost drooling. Bryant points to one of norns that looks like a tiger with funny, spikey hair on top. "I call this one a Bengal" says Bryant. Now pointing to the one next to the Bengal he says "And this one is a Civet." Now pointing to the last one he says "This one is most mischievous, I call it a Bruin." "BRUIN!" yells Dorek. "Yes, Bruin," obviously I named it after Bruin himself. "But why?" says Dorek in complete disgust. "Because I like the way he thinks, now lets go I want to discuss my plans........

Now down in the forest the Ettins are keeping busy building their wonderful home. Ailee and Aden are playing with there new found friend Samuel who taught them how to talk. Ailee starts to talk about Bruin and where he is. Then she starts crying. "I miss him," she exclaims. "Don't worry we'll find him," says Aden. Then all of a sudden they see some Grendals coming toward them. Its Gilda with her children from the ship. They come and terrorize the Ettin city. Everyone runs in panic. Gilda grabs Aliee. She screams and them all the Grendals run away. The Ettin home is destroyed and Aille is gone. Then comes Bruin with his Ettin friend.............

Chapter 9 - Pattycake4554

Bruin and Percy sadly surveyed the remains of the Ettin's home project. Scattered around the area were small groups of obviously disgruntled Ettins, waving their fists over their heads and stomping their feet. They could hear the deep Ettin voices nearby, "Samuel extremely scared!" Bruin sighed, and squeezed Percy's arm, "We will avenge this destruction, my friend, you may trust me on that!" Aden, hearing Bruin's voice, ran from the rubble, screaming out, "Bruin, she got Ailee! "Gilda, that Grendel! She took Ailee! We have to rescue Ailee!"

"And so we shall, my dear Aden! Thanks be, you are all right!" He turned to Percy, "Get as many as you can of the Ettins who survived the attack...we must find Gilda and Ailee". Bruin reached into his pocket for his homing device, grateful that Gilda hadn't yet discovered the foreign object hidden amidst her scales. "We will need more supplies and weapons if we want to fight these Grendels, Percy. We must return to the Lab. I know we can't convince the Shee to provide help. We will use your Ettin skills to get us what we need. I know my brother Shee well. They are now busy trying to start another spaceship growing. I'm sure they won't be looking for us to come back there".

At that moment Gilda was rubbing a sore spot on the back of her neck as she tried to get Ailee to "Eat Food". Ailee was still crying. "Me want Bruin". "Ailee not hungwy". Ailee shivered with cold. Suddenly Ailee sneezed, "Ailee extremely ill". Gilda was surprised to feel her heart stop in fear. She didn't understand exactly why she even cared about this poor little Norn but she wanted to protect Ailee. Gilda was torn between two strong emotions, a mother's longing for her child (She had laid her egg on the ship and never saw her child) and an extreme rage at all involved, the Shee, Bruin, the Ettins, and the Norns...but strangely not this one little Norn. Ailee sneezed again and Gilda grabbed Ailee's hand, heading back in the direction of the Shee Lab. She knew Bruin would know what to do. The Lab was where the medicines were stored and Gilda hoped Bruin was still there. Gilda told Ailee "Norn Eat Herb" when she saw the Gelsemium plant, hoping it might contain at least some medicine, as Ailee sneezed yet again.

A siren was blasting on the Spaceship! "It's a Grendel Invasion alert!" Ken yelled to Kimberly. "The Grendels are in the Norn Terrarium!" Greg looked up from the machinery on which he had been working. The Genetic Splicer worked fine, except for one very large problem: the splicing resulted in the deaths of both donors! Kimberly had said her dream was to create more like Greg, but not at the risk of losing the only one like him so far!

"We'll get back to this later" Kim yelled to Greg, "Right now, we need to get you to the Norn Terrarium and protect those babies". She raced with Greg away from the Splicer and the pulsing Lung that powered the ship (the noise of its breathing was somehow terrifying and reassuring at the same time), down the central hallway of Engineering, past all the doors to the Terrariums. "We'll use the Transporter, Greg, I'm sure they are watching the central door". As she positioned Greg and pushed the button, she said, "I'm right behind you. Get those Grendels away from our baby Norns!"

There was a flash of light. Greg felt suddenly lightheaded as a pastel colored round cloud enveloped him and he heard the sound of a gentle tinkling of bells. When he opened his eyes, he was
on the upper hill of the Norn Terrarium, not far from the mausoleum, looking down on a screaming Norn baby who was being beaten by a growling red-eyed Grendel! "Rudos", Greg yelled, "Get away from that Norn!"

Rudos turned, disbelief in his wild-eyed stare, as Greg leapt off the edge of the hill and grabbed him by the throat. "URGGGGHH... Norn and Greg must die!" he grunted as he, in turn, reached for Greg's throat. Locked in their deathgrips, Greg and Rudos rolled toward the pon

Chapter 10 - The_Creature_Master

“What in tarnation happened to you!?” Rudos shouted.

“What do you mean?” Greg replied while holding onto Rudos.

“You’re metal, you fool!”

“Oh. Right. Thanks for reminding me that I’m cybernetic,” Greg said and stood up, holding a struggling Rudos in his hands.

“Let me go!! You’re a traitor to us Grendels!”

“Give me one good reason why I should,” Greg said, ignoring Rudos’ last comment about him being a traitor. “You were beating up poor Benjamin there.”

“I can’t believe it! You care for these Norns! Quentin! Get backup from the Jungle Terrrarium! Pronto!”

“Yes, Rudos!” Quentin said and ran back to the Jungle.

“You stop right there!” Greg screamed and emitted a sonic wave aimed at Quentin from his free hand, stopping him in his tracks.

“What have you done to me!?” Quentin screamed in shock.

“I’ve used sonic waves to attack the neurons in your brain which tells you to move. They’re now numb, you’ll be okay in 6 cycles,” Greg told him. “And now for you…”

Greg flew up to the Pumperspikel tree and hanged Rudos there, leaving him dangling by his jacket.

“Here! What’s going on!?” the leader of all the Grendels on the Ark shouted as he burst into the Norn Terrarium. He stared in disbelief and shock as he saw Greg floating above the ground. “What in the world!? Greg!? What happened to you!? Why are you helping these puny Norns!?”

“Because, Quaz. Just because,” Greg told him.

“Grendels, attack!! Platoon Two! Attack Greg! The rest of you, kill everything you see!!”

“What’s happening, mommy?” a little Norn asked.
“A fight. Quick, let’s get to the Bridge!” the mother of the young Norn said, carrying her and rushing out. She was quickly stopped by two Grendels guarding the exit.

“I see some Norns…” one of the Grendels said evilly.

“Yeah! Me too!” the other said, advancing on the two trembling Norns.

“Help!!” the mother screamed in fear.

Greg, hearing the cry, whipped around and saw the two Grendels attacking.

“No!” Greg shouted, weak from all the fighting. He extended his arm in hope of emitting another blast of sonic waves, but he was too tired. He focused all his will on emitting a blast, but he was too weak. Then, as a last resort, he used his howl. His throat changed it’s shape and…

“SSSSKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEE-YAAAAAHHHHHH!!” Greg screamed. The sound was so high pitched it shocked the Grendels. He saw their ears bleeding. Some of them even lay dead on the ground. Good thing he adjusted the volume and pitch in such a way that it only affected Grendels. He saw that Quaz had somehow managed to escape from his deafening howl and was now escaping into the Jungle Terrarium. He used his powers to form a teleporter which opened up and sucked all Grendels into it and teleported them to the Jungle Terrarium. He himself vanished in a ball of light, only to reappear in the Jungle Terrarium. Quaz came bursting in, panting.

“Noo!! How did you arrive here so fast!?” he screamed in sheer shock. He slowly backed away from Greg.

“The Norns have never proved a danger to us. Why attack them?” Greg asked him, coming closer all the time.

“Because we hate them!!” Quaz replied, reaching the edge of the piranha pool.

“But why? That’s what I want to know.”

“We don’t know why! It’s just because!! The sight of one makes me want to kill them!!” Quaz realized that he had reached the end of the Terrarium. In a frantic movement meant to jump up and cling onto the platform above him, he accidentally kicked the switch used to open the trapdoor to the piranha pool. “NOOOO!!” he screamed as he was eaten by the hungry piranhas.

“Greg! You okay?” Kimberly asked him worriedly. After all, she didn’t want him to die. He was to save them if something bad happened.

“Yeah. I’m okay. Just a little drained. I need rest,” he replied.
“Come here, Greg. We need to recharge your power reserves,” Ken told him.

“Okay…” Greg said as he stumbled to where Ken was.

Ken attached a few wires to Greg and turned a machine on. A soft whirring noise came from it.

“We need to find away to make your power reserves full every time. We can’t afford you to be fighting when your power reserves are empty,” he told him.

“Okay. I’ll continue working on the Gene Splicer as soon as I’m recharged,” Greg said while fell asleep.

“What do you think happened to the Grendels?” Kimberly asked Ken.

“I don’t know. But I heard a really loud howl just now,” he said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

“Oh. That means that the howl I added works then,” Kimberly told him. “Hey! There’s a Grendel sneaking towards the Splicer!”

“Where! Hey! You’re right! John, Mark, Ben! Try to stop him!”

“Yes, captain,” they said simultaneously and rushed off.

Suddenly, the wires and cables attached to Greg detached themselves and Greg woke up. “I feel much better now,” Greg said, grinning.

“Greg! There’s a Grendel sneaking towards the Gene Splicer! Get him away from it! It isn’t finished and is prone to explode without warning!”

“On my way!” Greg said and flew there. “Rudos! It’s you again!”

“Right. And it’s you again. You’re starting to irritate me. I heard about this machine and I’m going to splice myself with this Rocklouse here,” Rudos stepped into the Splicer and turned it on.

“Wait!!” Greg yelled but he was too late. The Splicer began to whirr and the pipes broke. Steam and smoke emerged from it. Greg quickly set up two cosmic shields. One around the Splicer and one around himself. And then the Splicer exploded.

“Greg!” Kimberly and Ken yelled.

Chapter 11 - vegie_2000

Kimberly and Ken were surrounded by smoke. Coughing and spluttering, they made their way towards the splicer. The smoke cleared and reviled the lifeless looking Greg on the floor. The other Shee came running in to see what the explosion was.

"Good grief! What happened!?" They asked.

"He's still breathing, but weakly..." Said Kimberly,"There's no time to explain! We must help Greg!"

"By doing what?!" Ken replied, "The splicer just blew the power! There's nothing that can be done!"

That's when Kimberly took the time to look around. All the lights had gone out, too.

"I don't think this other grendel survived..."Said another Shee sadly, pointing to Rudos lying on the floor.

"We've got to get back to Albia!" Said Kimberly, "It's our only hope!"

"But we could never get the ship ready in time!" Said Ken.

"That's true..." Murmured the other Shee.

"Well we may as well try! We can't lose Greg!" Said Kimberly, running off towards the ship.

She was followed by the other Shee, and the norns helped, too. Before long, the ship was complete.

"Is he still breathing?" Said Ken to Kimberly, who was carrying Greg onto the ship.

"Yes, but he's getting weaker!" Said Kimberly.

Within 10 minutes the ship had blasted off and was on its way back to Albia. Greg managed to survive the trip was getting worse by the minute.

The Shee had contacted Albia and explained the circumstances to the other Shee who had a machine ready for Greg. The ship landed and as soon as they could, Kimberly and Ken came running out of the ship.

A crowd was stood outside, which included Bruin, Aden, Percy and Samuel (who had been trying to clear up the mess). Bruin was also worrying about what had happened to Ailee.
Greg was rushed right to the machine, where he was connected to it.

“He’ll be alright now…” Ken assured Kimberly.

Kimberly sighed. Would Greg be OK?

Suddenly Greg came round. “Where am I? Where’s Rudos?”

“You got caught in that splicer explosion,” Replied Ken.

“Oh Greg! We were so worried! Are you alright?” Kimberly burst into relief.

“Never better! Now, answer my question, WHERE AM I?” Said Greg.

Kimberly explained everything, right from when the splicer exploded.

“Well, we best get back and get the splicer fixed!” Greg leapt up.

“Err, Greg, you could go, but there’s a little job we’ve got for you, first…” Bruin put his hand on Greg’s shoulder.

Chapter 12 by BettyAS

Gilda approached the Shee lab cautiously.  As much as she wanted to help Ailee, she didn't want to get caught herself.  Carefully she sniffed the air to see if any Shee were around.  At the same time she also searched specifically for Bruins scent.  If she had to trust any of the Shee, he was the only one she would.

Ailee shifted slightly in her arms.  The little norn was sleeping very deeply, Gilda had tried to wake her several times.  Her fur was damp with sweat and she felt very warm.   A chill ran through Gilda as she clumsily caressed the Norns cheek  Knowing she could do nothing else she proceeded to the lab.

Uncharacteristically the door to the lab was ajar.  It was quiet inside but everything looked strange.  Equipment had been left everywhere, papers hastily dropped onto countertops.  Bruin had always put everything away carefully before he left the lab, Gilda had expected that the others would do the same.  She sniffed the air again but found no recent scent of Shee as she hurried towards Bruin's lab.

***

Aiden was very quiet as he rode on Bruin's back.  Percy was leading the way, looking carefully at the ground and plants around him.  Aiden was also becoming very worried.  Something was not right and he could not understand what.  A part of him seemed to be weakening.  It was a part of him that always felt strongest when he was with Ailee.  He missed his sister and was worried about her.  The Grendel Gilda had never hurt him and he was not afraid of her, but he still knew there was something dangerous about her.

Suddenly Aiden felt very weak.

"Ailee, there is something wrong with Ailee."

"Can you not sense her anymore Aiden?" Bruin said worriedly.

Suddenly realizing that that part of him that was dwindling was Ailee, Aden shouted "Yes I can, but I think she is dying!"

Chapter 13 by Starry

"Oh no! Ailee is dying! We must find her, and quickly! If she dies, we will not only lose her, but Aden as well! They share some kind of telekinetic bind…it hasn't been developed enough until recently, but it's strong enough now that when one feels pain, or suffers in any way, the other is deeply affected as well. If Ailee dies, Aden will, at best, fall into a deep coma from which it is highly unlikely he will ever wake. Aden, you must concentrate harder than ever before on finding your sister. Your life is at stake, as well as hers!" Bruin exclaimed, and Aden and Percy's eyes widened in horror.

"Ailee! Please, Ailee, hold on! Don't give up, Ailee! Wake up! Come on, Ailee! WAKE UP!" Aden cried passionately and suddenly he stiffened on Bruin's back and slid to the ground.

"Aden!" Bruin gasped, bending quickly to Aden's side, cradling his head in his arms.

"Wake up, Aden! Ailee! Aden! Don't leave me, please! I love you…please, don't leave me, my children!" Bruin sobbed, then suddenly Percy made a noise of fear and surprise.

"Bruin! Look!" he cried in his deep, gurgly voice, and Bruin looked up through his tears and gasped. A brilliant, sparkly white light had enveloped Aden, and Bruin stared until he could look no more. He looked briefly away, then turned his head back to look. What he saw made him scramble to his feet, his eyes wide and his mouth open.

"Ailee!!! Aden! By the powers above…Aden has somehow brought Ailee here!" he stammered, awed, but Percy was already in action. He bent to the sides of the twins, and stroked each of their heads gently. Both turned over in their deep sleep, moaned, and fell back into deep sleep.

"They are alive. But they will sleep for many days. We must return to the Lab. Now," Percy said matter-of-factly, and Bruin smiled and laughed with relief through his tears.

"Oh thank heavens!" he cried, and bent to scoop up Ailee. Percy gently picked up Aden, and the two headed back towards Bruin's Lab.

Meanwhile, deep in the woodlands of Albia, Gilda sat on the forest floor, looking at her hands in disbelief. One moment ago, she had been holding the young Norn…then there had been a flash, and there had been two Norns where there had been one…at that point Gilda had looked away, blinded, and when she had looked again, both Norns were gone. Gilda gurgled uncertainly, then ambled away. She was sure that the Shee or the strange white ones had something to do with this, and she didn't want to be there if they came to find her.

Chapter 14 - Pattycake4554

Bryant has shown Dorek the computer programs he created for new Norns species. "Plans? What plans?" Dorek asked.

Bryant sighed, "The Shee Council ordered me to come up with the perfect soldier. And I did, with Bruin's help, of course. You know he was my assistant. Gilda was our prototype. We genetically altered her genes so as to create a Cybernetic Grendel, metal body, superpowers, so many wonderful features! Unfortunately, along with all the heightened abilities came an increase in anger and violence. The Shee Council was afraid the Grendels would turn on the Shee as the obedience gene had also been lost. But we could not stop. Sometimes you know, we scientists do things just because we can, not because we should. Bruin solved the problem though. He added what he called a "caring" gene. But before we could complete our experiments, our pregnant Gilda escaped with those two little Norns."

"And the Norns, Bryant? How were they different other than appearance?" inquired Dorek.

"Bruin had altered them as well. He was trying to come up with an ability for telepathy and telekinesis. But again, I don't know if it worked. Here, I'll show you the data on the discs." Bryant reached for the spot on the shelf.
"Where...Oh,NO, Bruin must have taken them when the Shee forced him to leave after he launched the Mothership."

Dorek sat down. He appeared stunned. "Bruin..I had him figured all wrong. Oh, Bryant what I wouldn't give to be able to work with you and Bruin on these creations. I always wanted to be the one to bring the Shee toward a new frontier! In my heart, I wanted to break free of our Council but didn't know who to talk to about it. I have been so frustrated!"

"Maybe we still can, Dorek" Bryant looked determined. We may yet be able to find Bruin and offer our services to be a part of his team. After all, the Shee Council is certainly not going to be pleased when they learn the details of all that has happened." Bryant began putting discs and data into a bag. "Grab that laptop and don't forget some batteries" he brusquely ordered.

Dorek's eyes shone with excitement. "Bryant, we may be able to get Kim and Ken to help us! Let me try to reach her with the transmitter. They were on the Mothership when Bruin launched it. Maybe there is something they can do."

After much button pushing and static, Kim's voice was heard quite clearly, surprising them both.

************************

Kim giggled, "We are here on Albia, Dorek! There was a small problem on the ship, the Splicer exploded! We were able to set the ship in orbit around Albia and used the Shuttle stored at the rear airlock to return to Albia with our injured patient. We were certainly glad the Ettins are so competent at loading all the machinery. How are you?"

Hurriedly, Dorek replied, "No time to socialize now, Kim. Something incredible is happening! I know you and Ken will want to join in this. But I can't talk about it over the transmitter. Can we meet at our secret place near the Hanging Bridge in one cycle?"

"OK, Dorek, I can tell this is very important to you. I'll bring Ken. See you then. And maybe, you can return with us to the mothership. There are some problems I know you can help us with, and I don't mean just the Splicer" and with that, Kim signed off.

"All set, Bryant. Let's go" Dorek said. Bryant handed Dorek a bottle, "Here, Dorek, eat potion with me. It will keep us strong and healthy for our mission. Perhaps we will find Bruin on the way." They emptied the bottles and headed for the door.

Chapter 15 - The_Creature_Master

“Err… Bryant?” Dorek said while taping Bryant’s shoulder. “Is it just me, or are the other creatures here?”

“I can sense their presence also,” he replied while looking nervously around.

Suddenly, Dorek felt someone crumble beneath his foot. He anxiously looked down and his eyes widened in horror.

“Oh, no. We’re in an Uglee’s hive! And I just stepped on one of their eggs!” he said, scared. “Everyone knows how protective they are of their young!”

“Oh, no. Where’re Kimberly and Ken when we need them?” Bryant cried.

Just then, a horde of Uglee came flying out of the darkness and start screeching, calling for more. Bryant and Dorek stood back to back and took out their stun guns and ice beams.

“Ready?” Bryant asked. “We’ll have to hold them off until Kim and Ken arrive.”

“Ready,” Dorek replied while cocking his guns. They both then set them to maximum power and fired.

Dorek fired an ice blast at an Uglee swooping down to claw his face and punched it with his fist, shattering it’s frozen body while Bryant fired his stun guns, disintegrating many Uglees.

“They must have built a hive here seeing as it’s so run down! We’ve not used this place in years!” Dorek told Bryant.

“That’s what I figured!”

Suddenly, all the Uglees froze in the air. They seemed to float for a nano or two then crash to the ground. Frozen shards of iced Uglee flew everywhere. Dorek and Bryant, who had held their arms up to their faces to protect them from the shards of ice, lowered them to see Greg with Kimberly and Ken behind him.

“Are you guys all right?” Ken asked worriedly. “Greg heard the screech of the Uglees and quickly teleported us here.”

“Yep,” Greg said while the ice gun reformed into his right arm. “I set up a cosmic shield around you two and completely froze the whole place. Must not forget the Uglee eggs inside the walls.”

“I knew I should have brought him along!” Kimberly said, smiling. “You guys okay?”

“Yeah, we’re okay. Except for this scar on my arm,” Bryant replied.

“You said something incredible was going to happen over the transmitter. What is it?” Ken asked.

“It’s the sea! Look!” Dorek pointed at the waves.

“Oh, my…” Kimberly whispered.

The waves were slowly opening up. The light breeze gradually became stronger and stronger, until Ken’s glasses flew into the sea. As more of the sea opened up, they saw buildings.

“Holy Craffur! Can it be?” Ken said as he squinted to see more.

“We predicted that at this time of the year, the sea would open up. This only happens once in a millennium! It’s the lost city of Gafundry! Shee say that there are magical items there that can improve one’s mental prowess and strength. Let’s go!” Dorek said, starting to run off.

“I think teleporting would be easier,” Greg grinned and teleported them into the lost city.

Chapter 16  BettyAS

Ailee's head felt heavy when she tried to raise it.  Her chest hurt with each breath she took, her arms and legs too weak to move.  Carefully she opened her eyes and looks around.  Her breathing stoped suddenly as she recognized her surroundings as Bruin's lab.   What was she doing here?  Had it all been a dream?  She remembered running from the Grendel and leaving Bruin's lab with her brother.  She also remembered Bruin taking her and her brother into a strange building that he called a ship.  She had followed her brother and the grendel out just before that building flew upwards with a deafening roar.  No, it could not have been a dream, she could still feel the burn she had gotten from its heat.  So how had she gotten back here?

Struggling to sit up Ailee looked for her brother.  The lab is quiet and dark but she can barely hear a soft breathing from across the room.  She laid back down and sighed softly.  She knows it is Aden and he is sleeping.  Her eyes closed slowly as she drifted back to sleep.

*****

Bruin paced nervously in the office next to his lab.  Had the floor been made of a softer material he would have worn a path into it by now.  His normally calm life has been shattered, and all because he had been in a hurry and forgotten to lock a door.   Part of him searches for someone else to blame.  The signal that a message had arrived from Bryant distracted him.  Bruin didn't know why Bryant had favored him so much; perhaps it was because Bryant and Bruin's father had been such good friends.   Ever since Bruin's father had died Bryant seemed to always be there when Bruin had needed him.  When Bryant had invited him to participate in his secret project, Bruin had been elated.  But now Bruin was frightened.  Bruin had created the grendel that Bryant had wanted, but had made some changes.  The thought of dealing with such a dangerous creature scared him so he had genetically engineered Gilda to be sweet, most of the time.  Her aggressive side was triggered chemically, and he had always done so before Bryant came to visit.  He had also implanted her with hundreds of prefertilized eggs.  Gilda did not need to mate, she would produce new eggs on her own.  Those offspring unfortunately would not share her sweet side.

The young norns were another matter.  Bryant knew nothing about them.  They had been hatched from a single egg.  Brother and sister, but in many ways one.   The twins were telepathic with each other, able to share's what the other knew, felt and learned.  He had also tried to make them telekinetic so they could pass smell objects from one to the other solely with the power of their minds.  What Bruin had seen in the forest, however, had far exceeded his wildest dreams.  The twins seemed to also be able to transport each other.  The great flash of white light frightened him.  He had no idea now what kind of power they wielded.   He looked through the fogged glass at the sleeping norns in the lab.  They looked so innocent, but were so dangerous.  The irony was that the danger was not them, but what Bryant would do when he found out.

*****

Percy sat outside the lab humming softly as he looked at the stars.  He was supposed to warn Bruin if any Shee showed up, but he doubted he would have to worry about that.  The lights off in the distance showed that his fellow Ettins were busy.

Poor foolish Bruin.  He probably though he was responsible for genetically engineering the twins and the Grendel.  After all, Percy was just his assistant, useful for menial tasks and little more.  Bruin would never guess that Percy had made modifications to his equations and the settings of the genetic splicer, or that he had rigged the lock to Gilda's cage so it would no longer securely lock.  The grin that appeared on Percy's face was almost sinister.  Things were going so well, the Shee were in total disarray.  The early launch of the ship was an unexpected bonus.   Soon the Shee would have to recognize the Ettins for what they really were.

Chapter 17 – vegie_2000

Later that night, all the ettins of Albia gathered to hold a secret meeting in the middle of the jungle. Percy stood at the front and hushed everyone to silence.

“Aright everyone, settle down!” He said, “OK, as you know, we are gathered here today to show those Shee who we really are! Soon us ettins will rule Albia!!!!!!”

At that all the ettins cheered – all of them of course, except Samuel, who stood moping in the corner. He was happy, as he was – a worker at the Space ship and assistance to the Shee, and against the whole idea of changing this. Yet he had to play along, or the other ettins would probably force him to anyway, now he knew that they were plotting something.

“…And how are we supposed to do this?!” Shouted one ettin from the crowd.

“I was just getting to that bit,” Replied Percy, “As you know, Bruin and I have recently conducted an experiment involving Gilda, the grendel, who can breed on her own – with offspring, and all the many generations to come, that will be ten times meaner than their mother. Of course, I was the genius behind that part!”

Samuel was feeling more and more uncomfortable. Should he stay to find out what this plan is and go and warn the Shee? But if he did that, the ettins would find out. The Shee would hate him if he took part, though. What was he to do?

“As I was the genius behind that part, I know for a fact that the grendels will not attack ettins. This may or may not be the reason that Gilda is afraid of us, I do not know. Yet because of this, we can get those monsters on our side! We can take over those Shee completely!” Percy explained, enthusiastically.

The ettins cheered in excitement “Percy! Percy! Percy!” They chanted.

“Alright! Then let’s waste no time! We must find those grendels! But wait a second, we must understand exactly what is to happen before rushing off and going wild. I have no idea how these grendels will react when they see us. They may be scared, or they may walk up to us with open arms. Now, what I want to do is, every ettin will have a grendel each – this will be an easier way of getting them to do what we want them to do. Now, I know even a stupid little norn would know that you can’t ask a grendel for a favour, so let’s just capture them in a grendel trap – and every ettin will then take a grendel on a leash – and we will close in on the Shee laboratories and attack!!!!!” Percy explained.

“YES! ATTACK!!” The crowd shouted.

The ettins made their way through the jungle. Samuel trailed along behind. What was he doing? Two ettins, Lupin and Fudge, carried the grendel trap, while Percy led the way. Suddenly, the group stopped in the middle of the path. Percy sniffed the air.

“Grendels! Right ahead! Quickly! Get the trap ready on the path – I will go on ahead and make sure these are the right grendels we are looking for – do not set the trap yet unless I come back and say so!”

Lupin and Fudge did as they were told, and Percy ran off ahead, just at the side of the path. A few seconds later, he was back.

“Right! They are the grendels! Set the trap and hide!” He ordered.

The ettins quickly hid, and the pack of evil grendels soon came marching along, straight into the trap.

“GARRR! GRUN! GRASN!” They shouted, angrily, but when they saw the ettins, they rocked about in the cage, desperate to escape.

Percy had the leashes with him. He called the other ettins over to help him. One by one, the cage door was lifted, and a grendel was leashed and given to an ettin. By coincidence, there were as many grendels as there were ettins. Percy knew that there would be more…

Samuel sighed and glanced down at his grendel. She was shaking and pulling – Samuel stroked her, but then looked closely - to his relief, he realised that the grendel was Gilda…

The ettins carried on along the path, and it wasn’t long before they reached the Shee labs…

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN - Starry

Meanwhile, in the Lost City of Gafundry...

In a flash of bright red light, Greg, Kimberly, Ken, Bryant, and Dorek appeared in what seemed to have once been a temple square. Several abandoned vendors booths, their brightly-colored awnings fluttering in the barely-there breeze, were scattered about on the cobblestone floor. A large stone fountain adorned the very center of the square, showing four stone figures, (an ettin, a norn, a Grendel, and a Shee) standing tall in a ring, each grasping a stone staff with a large, deep blue jewel set into its top. Behind this stood an enormous temple, flanked by four smaller ones, two on each side. Each of the smaller temples was adorned with carvings, statues, and images of one of the four figures - there was the Ettin Temple, the Norn Temple, the Grendel Temple, and the Shee Temple. The center temple was labeled with symbols in the Ancient Tongue, which Bryant read aloud.

"Gafundry: Ey ilcay di akke becont mue."

"Oh my goodness…" Kimberly gasped.

"Gafundry: The City of Things That May Become," Dorek whispered. "People have argued for centuries about whether or not this place exists…and we're here. This is amazing."

"I do not understand. What exactly is this place? Nothing in my programming or mind can tell me," Greg said, confused. Bryant immediately began to explain.

"Legends tell us that there was once a city called Aidanehn, in which the four prophets lived: Eida of the Ettins, Neyna of the Norns, Guilan of the Grendels, and Sylineh of the Shee. These four lived together in peace in the city and watched over their people. They spun the futures of the four races, but at the same time they created things called Gafunds, Might Have Beens of the four races. These were possible futures for the races, but futures that strayed away from the ones that the prophets had created - the ones that Should Be. These Gafunds were stored away in a city called Gafundry, on a hidden island in the middle of the sea, which the four prophets watched closely. For if these Gafunds were ever accessed, they could be stolen and put into use, tearing the pattern of fate that the prophets worked so hard to weave. Such a tear could and would most certainly cause great devastation, and could make things happen that should never Be.

Unfortunately, one day a creature - nobody knows for sure what creature it was, for each race has their own culprit, the Norns blame Grendels, the Shee the Ettins, and so on - wandered somehow to the hidden city on the island hidden amongst the ocean. Nobody is quite sure how. But when he saw the powers he could have from this island, he became evil. It is told that in order to protect their woven Fate from the Gafunds, and this Trespasser, the four prophets hid Gafundry beneath the ocean. Only once every thousand years would the gateway to the island open, to give the Trespasser a chance to leave. Unfortunately, the Trespasser discovered that he could use this one day gateway to give himself some power. For two days before the actual day the island is revealed, and two days after, the Trespasser is able to send out messages to the outer world. And with these messages he can send Gafunds. It seems to me that the legend has been proven true. Someone has been given a Gafund that will most likely change the future as we know it. Very soon, something is going to happen that is not supposed to. Unless we discover this Gafund and the culprit very, very soon, the Fate cloth will be torn, and we will follow the Gafund, no matter what it may be, to a new existence. Whether it be good or bad. And given the recent events, I am not thinking it will be good."

Chapter 19 - The_Creature_Master

“So that’s how this place came into existence…” Kimberly said, awed at the city.

“All right. We’ll explore the temples. Dorek, you’ll explore the Ettin Temple. Kimberly, you go into the Norn Temple. Ken, you’ll go for the Shee Temple. I’ll go for the Central Temple and Greg will go into the Grendel Temple. We’ll meet back at these statues in one cycle,” Bryant told the others.

“Rodger!” Greg said with a salute and was running off into the Grendel Temple before anyone could say anything.

“Okay, then,” Kimberly said. “See you guys soon!”
-----------------------------------

“Can’t see in this place,” Greg said to himself. “Too darn dark… Night vision, on!”

Suddenly, Greg’s eyes turned green. He then could see everything clearly.

“Awesome…”

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a cylindrical shape. He turned, and went closer.

“What in the world is that?” he thought so himself.

Upon staring at the cylinder for a few minutes, he realized that it had to be device in which one of the Gafunds was stored in. He turned to his left and saw a horrible sight.

“My Shee!” Greg exclaimed and ran to the two figures lying on the ground. They were old generation Grendels, created even before Gilda was created. These Grendels were known to be a vicious race, destroying everything that got in their way of life. They looked more primitive than Greg, yet they were more larger.

“Activate scanning systems,” Greg said. His eyes than turned back to red for a second before turning into dark blue. He looked the bodies over, than a list of readouts appeared for him to see.

“I see… They must have been preserved because of this device which was used to store one of the Gafunds… Cryogenics of some sort,” Greg said and paused. “Wait… If it was cryogenics that stored the Gafund, and it was cold enough to preserve these bodies about four meters away, that means…” his eyes turned red again and his face paled. “Oh, NO…”

He got up and quickly ran out of the Temple.

“Where to first? Where to first?” he said anxiously and decided on entering the Central Temple first.

He rushed through the narrow passageways, turning on his night vision as he ran. He saw Bryant up ahead and rushed to him.

“Nooo!” he cried.

“Greg! H-help m-me!” Bryant whispered. He was freezing, being so near to the storage device must have started freezing him.

Greg wondered why the sub-zero temperature wasn’t freezing him.

“It must be my cybernetic body,” he thought to himself as he aimed his hand at the storage device and the controls next to them and blasted it with a searing white light. He suddenly remembered that Bryant was nearby and created a cosmic shield around him to protect him from the explosion. But in doing so, he didn’t have enough time to create one over himself. The last thing he remembered before blacking out was being blasted off his feet and thrown through the air to land on the large jewel on the stone staff which the four statues were holding in their hands.

Bryant’s body temperature began to rise again and his body thawed out since the main storage device was destroyed. He figured that all the others must have been destroyed also since there was a control panel beside the device in this Temple. He rushed out of the Temple to meet Kimberly, Ken and Dorek. All of them had heard the explosion and rushed outside as soon as they weren’t so frozen that they couldn’t even move.

Their eyes widened shock as they saw Greg lying atop the blue jewel, unconscious. But what really scared them was the blue light emanating from his body and the jewel.

They climbed up the statue and brought Greg back down to the ground.

“Greg! Greg, are you okay?” Ken asked anxiously. He looked up at Bryant and Dorek. “Why is his body glowing?”

“I don’t know! How I came to know about this place was all from books!” Bryant replied.

Suddenly, a dark blue mist began to seep out of Greg’s open mouth, enveloping him. The four scrambled away from his body, both frightened and curious as to what was happening. A faint white light was then seen through the blue mist, and Kimberly edged closer as the blue mist began to disperse.

“Greg, are you okay? Come on, Greg! Wake up!” Kimberly said, shaking him.

Greg’s eyes opened with white light shining from them. It was as it his eyes were a torch.

“Greg! What’s wrong? What happened? Are you okay? Why are your eyes shining like this?” Ken asked.

“I… I don’t know… My brain feels… Weird…” Greg replied, clutching at his head. His eyes then began to glow more brightly as his head emitted a blue light. Then, the white light coming from his eyes turned to blue and finally disappeared.

“I feel as it… I know more things…” Greg told them. He looked up. “Is everyone okay?”

“Yeah, we’re okay. Thanks for saving us back there,” Bryant said as he patted Greg on the back. “But I think we’re now faced with another problem…”

Bryant turned his head as the others followed where his eyes were looking at.

“Oh, no…” Ken said, worried. “Greg, teleport us out of here, now! The waves are beginning to come down again! The wind is dying down! If we don’t hurry, we’ll drown!”

“S-something’s wrong! I can’t teleport!” Greg said as his left hand faded a bit and then reappeared. “Whatever happened to me when I was surrounded by that blue light must have corrupted my teleportation signal generator!” he told the others worriedly.

“Well, then. I guess that leaves Option Number Two,” Bryant said.

“And that is…?”

“RUN!”

They started running, but, seeing as the waves were closing down fast, Greg knew that there wasn’t enough time. He stopped as his head glowed again.

“Greg! What are you doing!? Come on!” Kimberly yelled.

Greg looked up and his eyes shone blue again.

“Force of wind, bring us there, carry us on your mighty bear. Let us escape these crashing waves, and then rest in those deep dark caves.”

As soon as he said that, the wind seemed to change direction and scoop Kimberly, Ken, Bryant, Dorek and Greg up. They then sped towards the shore and the caves to the right of it. They were moving so fast that everything passed in a blur. As they arrived, the wind died down and the five dropped to the ground.

“What in the world happened? Greg, did you say that?” Bryant asked.

“I… I don’t know! I was just running when I felt more knowledge being put into my mind. I don’t know how I knew those words or whatever, I just blurted them out the instant they magically appeared in my mind!” Greg told him.

“I see…” Bryant said. “If I remember correctly, the books said that whoever found the key to the door leading to improved mental prowess and strength, the city would close again… Never to open again for another millennium. The waves would come crashing down without any warning. When you fell onto the jewel, the impact must have shocked it and it was activated! That’s how you knew those incantations!” he said excitedly.

“Wow! Greg! What could be better for you?” Kimberly said. “First you get made into a part cyborg, and now you know magic! You may even be psychic! Awesome!”

Greg gleamed excitedly.

“You sure are one lucky Grendel, Greg,” Ken said, smiling.

“Now, let’s go back to the Shee Labs. We have to find Bruin,” Dorek told them.

“Yeah!” Kimberly said. “And while we’re there, I want to fix your teleportation signal generator!”

Chapter 20 - BettyAS

Bruin woke with a start as he heard the door to his office slam closed.

"Percy?" he said as he turned towards the sound.  "Percy, what's going on?  Why are you looking at me like that?"

"We've come for the twins"

"We?"  Bruin stood and looked down on the Ettin. "What do you mean we?  Have the Shee returned?  Percy, you're not making any sense."

"We as in the Ettins" Percy said slowly.  "The twins are going with us,   They are going to help us overthrow the Shee"

"Over throw the . . ."  said Bruin as he went pale.   ""No, Percy, you can't!  What have we ever done to harm you?   We always took good care of you!"

"That's right, you took care of us.  Treated us like children, not letting us live the lives we wanted to lead.  Was I ever given any choice about being your 'assistant'?  Did you ever treat me as an equal?  The twins are mine.  I created them not you.

"Edwin, come get him."

The door opened and another Ettin came into the room.  Bruin did not recognize him, but he had often found that all Ettins looked the same anyway.  The Ettin came over and tied Bruin's hands in front of him and led him outside the lab.  A few moments later Percy joined them, carrying Aileen with Aden trailing along behind.

Chapter 21 by Topegy45

As Bruin was walking with the Ettins he felt an eerie chill as if someone was watching him; little did he known that someone was watching him. The Ettins took him to their newly rebuilt home.

"Samuel!" yelled Percy, "Watch Aliee and Aden while we deal with Bruin."

Bruin was taken into the back room and locked in. Samuel didn't know what to do. He had the twins right in his hands. He could run and save them, but he would surely get caught. He thought for a moment and then decided that he would leave Ailee and Aden here while he went to go get help. The two Ettins at the gate, Carl and Kwazii, questioned him on where he was going.

"None of your business!" he yelled since he was in much higher rank then they were, "Now get out of my way!"

He pushed them out of the way and ran off into the forest. Unfortunately he ran right into Gilda. Gilda fell to the floor and got up in a terrible rage. Samuel was scared; once again he was in danger. Gilda swung at him, but he ducked and ran.

"Why do I get myself in so much trouble?" he said as he ran to the Shee village. There he found Ken and Kimberly help Greg off a table.

"All done," said Kimberly, "Your Teleportation mechanism should now work."

"Help me!" screamed Samuel, "Percy has captured Bruin and the twins. He holding them captive back at the Ettin village."

"How do we know that this isn't a trick?" questioned Ken.

"You just have to believe me, please!" squealed Samuel.

"My scanners show that he's not lying," said Greg.

"Well then lets get going," yelled Kimberly.

They all turn to the door when they hear it swing open and Bryant appears.

"THE ETTINS AND GRENDALS ARE ATTACKING!" yells Bryant in horror.

Chapter 22 by PattyCake4554

The Shee Guard were stunned to see the small but advancing army of Grendels led on leashes by Ettins headed toward them. They stood and stared, trying to grasp what they were seeing. They had always been taught to believe that the Shee were all- powerful and such a thing as their own creations doing anything but obeying them could never happen! The Captain of the Guard, known as a great warrior (though combat had not been needed on Albia in his lifetime) shook himself and ran to report to the Shee Council.

Bryant was also on his way to the Council meeting room. "Bryant", gasped the Captain, "Sir, Outside". He was having trouble organizing his words. "I know, Captain, I saw. Come with me". As usual Bryant's calm, cool, take charge nature did it's magic. They opened the Council Meeting Room door. A dozen Shee Leaders were in the room, going over blueprints on their computer screens for the new mothership they were growing.

The Captain snapped to attention as he turned to the Head Shee, Stylkineh, rumored to be a direct descendant of Sylineh, the legendary Prophet of the Shee. "Sir, we are under attack. The Ettins have captured Grendels and are advancing on the city and the laboratory. We await your orders."

"Attack? The Ettins DARE to attack the great and mighty Shee! How can this happen?" Stylkineh turned to Bryant, pointing his finger as he wrapped his cloak around himself. "You, Bryant, this is all your fault. This is what comes of letting you have your way with that Bruin and those Ettins! See now what you have done!"

Hearing this, the others in the room looked up, blueprints and new mothership forgotten. After a stunned moment of silence, they began whispering among themselves, many glancing at the doors.

Bryant sighed. "As usual", he thought to himself, "the Shee answer was to blame, never to think of the solution to a problem".

"That may be so, Chief Council", Bryant spoke placatingly. "But there will be time for my punishment later. We must now think of a solution to protect ourselves. And if I may make a suggestion?"

"I will hear you" thundered the Chief Council and he sat, waving for the others present to assume their seats.

"The scientists Ken and Kimberly are present here with me. And with them they have Greg, the Grendel Cyborg with many powers. They may be able to aid us in the battle while we figure out something else to do to either protect our Shee population or escape. The mothership remains in orbit around Albia. If we can delay the attack of the Ettins for a while we may be able to use the shuttles to transport some of the Shee, if not all, to the mothership."

"Hmmm, it is a start," Stylineh waved at the Captain, "You handle the battle. Get them on it." The Captain bent low at the waist, "As you decree, Oh Mighty Shee Council". He turned and ran to the door to find his help.

Another Council Member sat pensively thinking. He lifted his head and his eyes were sparkling. Mirekehn had gotten them out of many complex situations with his brilliant schemes during his tenure on the Council. "Council Leader, I have an idea."

"You may speak, Mirekehn", the Leader spoke hopefully.

"On the Mothership are many Ettins, family members who were on board when the ship was launched. We can use them as hostages against the Ettins who are attacking. They will certainly not want to see their families killed."

"This is true, Council Leader," Bryant spoke quickly, "some of what the Ettins are so angered about is the loss of their family members! We may be able to negotiate exchanges of Ettins aboard the ship for Shee here on Albia. Let me speak with Kimberly. One of the powers of the Cyborg Grendel Greg is a great and powerful voice. We may be able to have him make our wishes known to the Ettin leader, Percy."

"Percy!" shouted Stylineh. He lowered his voice, as the other Shee did not know of all this.
"I was warned of him in a dream. It came to me that he had the Garfund."

"Go ahead, Bryant. Do what is necessary. We, here, will prepare the lists of which Shee will leave Albia when all is prepared."

"As you command, O Council Leader", Bryant turned and ran from the room.

His mind was swirling. "We must also find a way to rescue Aiden and Ailee and Bruin, too." The Shee did not even know about them yet. "And we must figure out a way to get back to the Mothership before the Shee can take it over and leave Albian space forever! We will never be able to grow another mothership without the Shee scientists or the Ettins to help us!" His heart was pounding as he went in search of Dorek to help him find Ken or Kimberly. "I am getting much too old for all this running!" he thought to himself as he increased his speed.

Chapter 23 by vegie_2000

Bruin sat in the middle of the forest, surrounded by grendels, who were all watching him with suspicious eyes. All he could think of were the other Shee and Ailee and Aden - what was to happen to them? He of course, had no idea that they had been warned about the crisis.
Percy and the rest of the ettins met at the edge of the forest. He stood at the front as he prepared to make an announcement. There was a lot of whispering in the crowd about what Percy was about to say.
"Well, my dear brothers, it appears that this plan has been as smooth as possible. I saw it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears - the Shee are working as hard as they can, trying to get the new mothership ready to get out of Albia as soon as they can! They will be gone and Albia will be ours!
"It was that simple?" An ettin murmured.
"That's impossible!" Yelled another.
"Impossible it may seem, but possible it is," Replied Percy, proudly.
The ettins cheered in excitement and laughter. Percy beamed.
Ailee and Aden were being guarded, too, by grendels – being watched with beady and suspicious eyes. They had been told not to say a word, but that didn’t matter – they could talk between them without speaking anyway. They could hear cheering and laughter from the ettins at the end of the forest.
“Can you hear what they are saying?” Aden asked Ailee (in his mind).
“No, not a word,” She “replied.”
“They sure sound happy about something…” Said Aden.
“I wish we could alert Bruin,” said Ailee.
“Well we can’t – we can’t do anything to help…”
Back at the end of the forest, Percy had gone into the centre of the ettins – thanking each individual ettin for helping him with his plan. He had come round to thanking them all…but one.
“…And of course, I thank my best friend in the whole of Albia – Samuel…” Percy looked around all the ettins.
“Say, where is Samuel..?”
Suddenly, one of the bushes nearby was knocked down.
“FOUND YOU!” said Greg.
Kimberly and Ken stood behind him.

Chapter 24 by Starry718

Before any of the ettins could react, Greg pinned Percy's arms behind him and faced him towards Kimberly and Kim, behind whom came Samuel.

"Nobody move," Greg ordered, and the Ettins, shocked, obeyed.

"YOU! TRAITOR! I never would have expected it from you, Samuel. You're a disgrace to the Ettin Race! It will go down in history how you stopped the Ettins from finally taking the power that should have always been ours!" Percy fumed, struggling fruitlessly to escape Greg's hold. But Samuel only smiled grimly.

"I'm no traitor, Percy. You are. You don't realize how close you were to destroying the fate of everyone. All would have been chaos. But it's not entirely your fault. Eyagonaii is responsible - somehow he has seeped himself into your body, and is using you to bring about the destruction he has waited all these centuries for," he said, and Ken and Kimberly looked at him in confusion.

"Eyagonaii?" they inquired.

"The Lost One," Samuel replied seriously, and the two Shee gasped.

"Of course! It makes sense. The Lost One somehow managed to transmit himself out of Gafundry with a Gafund…the Gafund that says the Ettins will come to power! Don't you see? We've solved the ancient mystery…The Lost One…it was an Ettin!" Greg exclaimed, and Kimberly and Ken were awestruck.

"An Ettin…Eyagonaii?" Kimberly repeated the unfamiliar name curiously, and Samuel nodded gravely.

"We Ettins have always known that it was one of our own who wound up on Gafundry. But we are deeply ashamed to admit it. Generation after generation has forced the truth from their heads, putting the blame on the Grendels, but I am a member of an ancient line of honest Ettins who know the truth. Eyagonaii was The Lost One who wound up trapped in Gafundry, and who threatened the safety of Fate. And now he has managed to infiltrate Percy's body and spirit. He controls Percy now. And I do not know how to get him out. But we must, for Eyagonaii must be destroyed in order to eliminate the threat of the Ettins taking power. It is not something that is supposed to happen. And with Eyagonaii's destruction goes the fear that the Gafunds will ever be let out again," he explained.

"Okay, that makes sense…but what can we do?" Kimberly asked, and Samuel frowned.

"Somehow, we must withdraw Eyagonaii's spirit from Percy's body. He drained much of his strength to take on a leeching spirit form, and to control Percy's will, and without a host he will perish. But Legariming, or the removing of a leech spirit, is a difficult task, and requires ancient spells. I'm not sure where we can find such spells - they may no longer exist," he responded, and Greg stunned Percy with a paralysis wave and stepped forward.

"I know them. I think I can help."

Chapter 25 by Topegy45

Eyagonaii (in Percy's body) was not going to take this sitting down or rather paralyzed. With all his might he broke through the stun spell and ordered all the Ettins to retreat. They were all gone before any of the Shee or Greg were able to react.

"Darn! They got away," Greg exclaimed. "How did Eyagonaii break through my paralyize? My powers must be weakening again."

"Don't worry I'm working on a solution to that," declared Ken.

Back at the Ettin's home Eyagonaii told everyone that they must find a new home. The Ettins, of course, agree not knowing that Percy is being controlled by Eyagonaii.

"I need some rest. We'll set off for a new hideout tomarrow," said Eyagonaii.

The Ettins left Eyagonaii in the room alone to rest. When they were gone Eyagonaii started to talk to Percy in his head. Eyagonaii could see Percy (or rather is selfconience) inside his mind. Percy laid in the corner cowering over Eyagonaii.

"Get up you spineless fool," yelled Eyagonaii.
"I have plans for you."

"Why are you doing this to us Ettins?" cried Percy. "We just want to live in peace."

"I want to take over the world of Albia thats why," screamed Eyagonaii. "You Ettins are the weakest of the creatures on Albia so I figured it would be easier to control you.

"Take over the world? But we won't be hear for long. The Shee plan on taking all of us to a new world," said Percy. "Oh no I shouldn't have said that!"

"WHAT?! Leaving? I'll put a stop to that," shouted Eyagonaii. "Thanks for the info."

Chapter 26 by The_Creature_Master

“Now, how are we going to find them?” Ken asked.

“I can track them,” Greg told him. “I’ve found them. They’re heading North East. I reckon if we run fast enough, we can intercept them. Unfortunately, I can’t teleport as I’m weakening. I need a recharge.”

“There you… Guys are…” Bryant said, panting. “How in the world did you… Find this place? I heard a lot of Ettin voices just now and… Rushed over. Let me… Guess. Percy’s fault?”

Greg nodded grimly. “Yeah, it’s Percy. We think that Eyagonaii is in Percy’s body. They’re heading North East, but we just have enough time to catch them. Lets go.”

“Can’t you use your spells?” Samuel asked Greg. “You said that you had them.”

“Yeah, I do, but they’re weakening also,” he explained. “But I think I have enough power left for one more.” Greg closed his eyes and reopened them, which shone blue.

“Forces of the Heavens, hear our plea, bring us across the open sea. We really need to go North East, to catch Eyagonaii, that monstrous beast.”

Suddenly, some clouds appeared under their feet and carried them away.

“It worked! I still have enough power!”
***

“Eyagonaii, please, I beg of you. Let me go. Don’t destroy the Shee and others,” Percy pleaded.

“Shut up, you fool. We Ettins were meant to rule Albia from the very start! And now what do I hear?! The Shee are leaving! With all their creations! My plan is jeopardized! Now I will be forced to kill everyone on that wretched ship!”

Hearing his, Percy panicked as his family was on board the ship.

“No! I will not let you do it!”

Suddenly, Percy’s right arm went berserk. It was as if it had a mind of it’s own. Percy had managed to fight Eyagonaii and gain control of his arm! Several Ettins dodged his arm and grabbed him. Percy’s mouth then began twitching.

“Lee... Ddzon’t lizsten to me! I-I’m being… Controlled!” he managed. “E-e-eyagonaii has taken-ken-en my body!”

There was a huge murmur between the Ettins.

“Eyagonaii?” “He’s controlling Percy?” “Isn’t he the Lost One?”

Then Eyagonaii took control over Percy’s body once again.
“A-hem,” he said while smiling. “Now let’s get moving, shall we?”

“Hey, what happened just now?” one of the Ettins asked Percy.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, just now you were acting weird and-”

His sentence was cut short by the arrival of Ken, Kimberly, Greg and Bryant on clouds.

Percy stared in horror at Greg as he noticed that he was glowing. It was a glow only spirits could see. He knew instantly that Greg had the power of the Prophets.

“Everyone stop!” Ken ordered. “Make one move and Greg here will cast spells on you which will turn you into… Into chickens!”

Kimberly rolled her eyes. “We’re in such a dangerous situation and yet he still makes jokes…” she thought to herself.

The Ettins, not knowing that Greg was weakening and falling for the trick, obeyed.

There were two flashes of light as Ailee and Aden suddenly appeared next to Greg.

“We sensed that you were in trouble and came to help,” the two Norns said together. Then, they said to Greg privately, “We see that you are weakening. With out powers we can help restore your strength and power.”

Greg, stunned, just nodded slowly. He felt himself gaining more strength, and then he saw Percy edging away. His right hand reformed into a weird looking gun and shot something blue at Percy’s feet. The blue thing hit his feet, and froze.

“Let me go!” Percy screamed. “Ettins! Help me!”

“You’re Eyagonaii!” one of them shouted. “Give Percy back to us!”

“No, I’m not! You fools! What proof do you have?”

“We have the seal of the Prophets,” Samuel declared and help up a small golden amulet which had a face which resembled the Shee, Norns, Ettins and Grendels.

“Argh! No!” Percy cried and shielded his eyes from the amulet.

“See? That’s our proof! Fellow Ettins, hold him tight! We will exorcise the evil Eyagonaii!”

“Hold him down!” one of the Ettins said in agreement as all the other Ettins rushed towards Percy and pinned him down to the ground.

“Percy, we are Ailee and Aden. Listen to us and relax. We will help you break Eyagonaii’s control,” the two Norns said to Percy’s mind.

“Well, make it quick!” he said to them privately in their minds.

Greg, power regained, reached for Percy. He raised his hand into the air, inches away from Percy’s face, and slowly pulled it away. Percy’s body paled, and it was as if Greg was levitating him. The exorcism had begun.

Meanwhile, in Percy’s mind, he was fighting Eyagonaii.

“Get out of my mind and body!” he cried, and delivered a mental punch to Eyagonaii while he was busy resisting Greg.

“Power of the Prophets, we call upon you. Help us, please do. Help us free Percy from Eyagonaii, if not he will make us die. Help us exorcise this evil soul, and send him where he was meant to go.”

At that moment, Percy’s chest jerked up and a white cloud was suddenly expelled from his eyes and mouth. It slowly formed into the shape of an Ettin, and a voice rang in everyone’s heads.

“Nooooo!! You have not seen the last of me! I shall and will return! You will all die!” and with that, the white cloud disappeared in a wisp of smoke.

Percy tried to stand up, but immediately collapsed on the ground.

“I… Am so glad to be free! He has taken over my body for so long that I can’t stand up right!” he said cheerfully. He looked at Samuel and walked up to him. “Thanks, Samuel. If you hadn’t warned the Shee Eyagonaii still would have been in my body and the Ettins would have taken over Albia.”

“Don’t mention it,” Samuel said and shook Percy’s paw.

“Now we have to see Stylineh,” Bryant shouted over the cries of joy. “On to the Shee Council!”
***

“I see…” Stylineh said and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “You say that Eyagonaii took control of Percy and planned to destroy us?”

“Yes, Stylineh,” Bryant said, “and now, thanks to Greg, Aden and Ailee, Eyagonaii is now gone.”

“Good. You are all dismissed.”

At that, everyone went back.

Chapter 27 - a special story (for Easter) by BettyAS

The twins sat in front of the fire, mesmerized by its flames. Slowly their eyes closed as they tried to fight off sleep. Samuel smiled as he looked at them. The Shee council had left the twins in his charge until they decided what to do with them.

Samuel stood. “Ailee, Aiden, time for bed.”

The twins rose obediently and followed Samuel into the house. They knew better to argue with the ettin, but still wanted to fight off sleep as long as possible. As Samuel pulled the blankets over them they decided to try.

“Samuel, can you please”, began Aiden

“Tell us a story”, finished Aileen.

The twin’s telepathic abilities no longer surprised Samuel. He had gotten used to one finishing the other’s statement long ago. Samuel was also a historian so the prospect of telling a story was always irresistible.

“Alright, but one story and then you go to sleep.”

* * * * * * * * * *

Long ago in the sub-albian city there lived an Ettin named Etheria. Etheria was a very adventures young ettin and she often found her self in strange places and even dangerous circumstances. This day Etheria had been wandering with no goal in mind and found herself near the hot area. When Etheria was a child her parents had always told her not to go there, and being a very well behaved young Ettin she never had. But Etheria was no longer a child and now reasoned that since someone had once been there, or how would they know it was dangerous, it was all right for an adult Ettin to go there.

Etheria wandered along until she saw a strange object suspended from the ceiling. What had attracted her attention was the egg that sat below it. Etheria had never seen an egg like this. It was so many colors that she could not count them all, and some of them even sparkled. Etheria looked at it closely but could not recognize what kind of egg it was. It wasn’t very large so she decided to pick it up and take it home.

After placing the egg carefully on the floor of her house Etheria ran of to get her friends. Used to Etheria bringing home all manner of junk, they were not very enthusiastic. They were, however, good and supportive friends so they came along. The silence showed how taken they were with the egg’s beauty.

“What kind of egg is it?” Asked Jordan

“I’ve never seen so many colors.” Whispered Bethany. “ And they even seem to move!”

Etheria looked closely at the egg and the colors were moving. They seemed to swirl about slowly with no discernable pattern. Etheria blinked, then looked again. The colors were still now, but not in the same positions as when she first found the egg.

“I think I’d better go now”, said someone behind her.

“Um, yes. Me too.”

Shortly Etheria was alone. She decided to sit and watch the egg all night, but eventually fell asleep on the floor.

When she woke the next morning she discovered the egg in pieces on the floor. Each piece was round and a different color. Etheria picked one up and sniffed at it. For some unknown reason she the decided to taste it. The shell was soft and fruity. She tried another of a different color and it tasted of a different fruit. Etheria continued to eat them, finding each piece more delicious than the next. She ate almost half of the pieces before she finally stopped.

“I wonder what was in the egg” Etheria said to the empty house. Realizing that she would never be happy until she found out she walked out of the house. There in her garden she could see something by the predawn light. It seemed to have long ears and moved in short bounds. Quickly it grabbed a carrot and looked at her. Etheria would have sworn she saw a smile before it disappeared into the ground.

Etheria never saw another egg like that one again although she searched frequently for one. Carrots continued to disappear from the garden and once a year, if she got up before the dawn, she saw the creature in her garden. On those days she also found more colored bits of shell, as did all the other Ettins that lived near her.

* * * * * * * * * * *

Samuel looked at the norn twins and thinking them asleep started to leave the house.

“Samuel” said Aileen in a tiny voice. “Have you ever seen the colored shell?”

“Yes” responded Samuel with a smile. “They still appear once a year in the carrot patch.”

“And when is that?” said Aiden.

“Tomorrow” replied Samuel. “That is why I chose that story to tell you tonight. Now go to sleep, then maybe you will wake up early enough to catch a glimpse of the creature.”

Chapter 28 by PattyCake4554

It seemed that things had settled down on Albia. Spring was in full bloom and daily showers foretold the blossoms of the summer to come. Aden and Ailee were quietly playing together, munching on the carrots Samuel had brought in for their breakfast.

"I was just wondering that, too", Ailee answered Aden's thought. Aden giggled,"I know! But seriously, remember in the story Samuel told us…the bunny-thing was in the Carrot Patch. And Samuel brings us carrots all the time. But where is it? The Carrot Patch, I mean."

"There is no more fighting outside", Ailee thought back to Aden, with a twinkle flashing in her eyes. She was feeling so much stronger now that her illness had gone and she had been reunited with her brother. The twins had grown considerably in the short time since they had left the Shee Lab. A sort of adolescent curiosity had naturally overtaken them. Aden quietly walked to the door, opened it and peeked outside. "Samuel is not here. I see him talking to some Ettins. What do you say we take a look around? Maybe we'll find the Carrot Patch with those Jelly Bean things he told us about?"

"Well, I don't know about that part. He said they only come once a year. But the Carrot Patch must be there all the time, 'cause we eat carrots all the time. Let's just look around close to here."

Ailee followed Aden out of the door. The twins covered their mouths to quiet the sudden burst of giggles that so often accompanies the performance of a forbidden act. They, effortlessly and without thinking of consequence (another trait so common to adolescents), teleported themselves to the nearby forest. The first thing they noticed was the apple tree was in bloom and, being always hungry Norns, they stopped to snack on the delicious fruit.

Gilda had been lingering in the forest. She didn’t know why for sure but the scent of the twins was a draw and a comfort to her. When she saw Aden and Ailee suddenly appear beside the apple tree, her heart leapt and she could not quiet the grumbling moan that escaped from her throat, "Aargh, Ailee".

The sound startled the twins. Aden jumped in front of Ailee to protect her as he looked to see where the Grendel sound had come from. Ailee spoke quickly, "No Aden, don't be frightened. It is Gilda. She won't hurt us. Remember, she saved me when I was sick." Turning and looking around, she called out, "Gilda, come out. It's all right. We are not afraid and we won't tell on you."

The Grendel smiled largely, a somewhat frightening countenance with all the Grendel teeth showing! "Urg, Hello, Ailee. Arg, happy to see you! How arggh you feeling now?" Gilda reached out to touch the cute little Norn.

Aden again jumped between them, not quite yet ready to trust Gilda. Ailee shot him a dirty look and a quick thought, "Mind your manners, brother! Gilda is our friend!" Turning back, she said to Gilda, "Gilda, this is my twin brother Aden. We want to find The Carrot Patch. Do you know where it is?"

"Aargh, happy to meet Aden. The Carrot Patch in the Albian garden? Where all the Norns live? Er, me know where. Urgggh, but Grendels not wanted there." Gilda would go anywhere on Albia if she could spend time with and look after Ailee.

Aden's eyes opened wide, "where all the Norns live?" "There are more like us? I thought we were the only ones! Can you take us there?" He silently spoke to Ailee, "I'm sure it will be all right. We will meet them and see the Carrot Patch and come right back. But we can't teleport if we don't know where to."

Ailee was giggling again as she ran to jump into the Grendel's arms. "We can ride on Gilda! Come on Aden! Gilda, let's go to the Carrot Patch. Maybe there are jelly beans left."

"Urggh, me not know jelly beans but will go to Garden" Gilda turned and carrying the two little, very excited Norns, she started off for the Albian Garden.

Chapter 29 – vegie_2000

As the trio continued through the dark forest, the twins became quite restless, and kept on fidgeting. Gilda found it quite irritating, but she was so fond of the twins that she just couldn't say anything to them...
None of the three Creatures felt particularly frightened at that point, but the next thing that happened could have made the bravest of Creatures run a mile. Suddenly, from behind them, came the most deafening and most unexpected explosion! Gilda must have leapt three feet in the air! She then, not even stopping for the slightest thought, took off at such a jolt that Aden fell off her back...
The frightened grendel kept on running. Gilda's mind didn't even refer once to whether the twins were still on her back or not. She could hear her blood vessels pounding away in her head, she could briefly feel her feet thudding on the ground, one at a time making her run faster and faster. Gilda didn't even know what she was doing, it just that her instincts were too hard to control. Ailee was clinging for dear life on Gilda's back, ducking just in the neck of time at every low branch. For now, she was only worried about her own safety, and was staying focused enough to talk to her brother, probably about a mile behind them right now...
"Are you OK?" She asked Aden, in her mind.
"I'm fine! But what about you!? Gilda's gone crazy!" Aden was sitting up, a bit too overwhelmed by something that had happened far too quickly for him to take in.
"I think Gilda will calm down soon, hopefully.."
"Do you want me to join you?"
"No! Listen, Aden! Go and get help! Find out what that explosion was - get Greg, Bruin, Samuel - ANYBODY!"
"Well, you come and join me, then!"
"I can't - I think Gilda really needs me right now - I don't want to just leave her!"
"OK, I'll go and get help..."
For what seemed like five hours to Ailee, Gilda kept on running at a fast, constant speed. Then for what seemed like another five hours, she slowed down. Eventually, Gilda fell in a heap on the floor, puffing and panting.
Ailee slowly climbed off Gilda's back, not daring to say a word. For the first time, Gilda started to think about the explosion and what it might have been, whether the twins were all right or not, and where she might be right now...
"Gargh..Grum...Me...Very...Sorry..." Gilda said finally, between puffs and pants.
"Don't worry, it's alright," Ailee replied.
"What...Happened...To...Your...Brother?"
"Oh, Aden? He's alright..."
Ailee decided there was no point in going to get help, so she told Aden (Who had all most reached the Shee labs) just to investigate what that explosion was.
Gilda and Ailee sat just off the path, trying to get their breath back. There was a long silence. Ailee, if she was an ordinary norn, would be bored stiff, but she continued talking to her brother.
“The door’s locked, Ailee! But I can hear the Shee inside, they sound quite worried – Samuel, Greg, Bruin, Kim, Ken – they’re all in there!”
“Can you hear what they are saying?”
“No – they’re all talking too loudly to even hear each other…”
“Is there a problem, Aden?”
Aden turned around to see Percy standing behind him.
“Err…No – I just wanted to find out what that explosion was…” Aden said quickly.
Ailee was listening to the conversation with interest.
“I think Percy’s about to tell Aden what the explosion was,” She said to Gilda.
“Your brother will be able to teleport over here soon, won’t he? We’re still on the right track to the garden, if you’re still bothered.” Replied Gilda.
This was a confusing time. Aden was both talking to Percy and hearing Gilda and Ailee’s conversation, but Ailee gathered he was having difficulty and hushed Gilda so Aden could listen to Percy.
“The explosion..? Something to do with those wild grendels of Gilda’s. They have completely demolished the Shee labs, everything’s destroyed! But I’m yet to know what made that explosion myself..” Percy told Aden. “ I’m sure you’ll find out soon enough, but it’s no use hanging around here – I think you should keep out of the way, for now.”
“OK.”
Ailee then looked at Gilda.
“What was it?!” Gilda asked.
Ailee explained it to Gilda. The poor grendel looked at the ground. She felt so guilty, feeling that it was her own fault.
“Oh Gilda, it’s not your fault, don’t worry,” Ailee comforted her.
“It is. If I didn’t exist none of this would have happened.”
“That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s your fault, Gilda – don’t blame yourself.”
Aden appeared next to his sister at that point.
“Aden, I’m so sorry about what happened back there.”
“That’s OK, you didn’t mean to.”
Gilda then looked at the twins, and said something that really surprised them, “What’s it like to have family?”
Ailee and Aden looked at eachother. Then, after about five seconds silence, Ailee said to her, “You want some loving children, don’t you?”
Gilda sniffed and nodded.
“Why don’t you two run off to the garden now, it’s just up ahead, I’ll be OK, just…”
“THAT’S IT!” Aden jumped up, so suddenly that even Ailee, who knew he was about to do that, looked startled.
“You’re right, Aden!” Ailee said, excitedly.
“What? What are you talking about?” Asked Gilda.
“Don’t you see? You have got a child that cares! And it’s about time you and Greg were finally united!” Aden said.
“Of course! Thinking about it – Greg is your son! You laid that egg on the mothership, a little while back…You MUST finally meet him!”
Gilda had never looked happier in her life.
“I think you two should head off to th
